There
are fifteen historical towns
and villages situated around
upper Mugello and Valdisieve
such as a small historical village like San
Godenzo whose foundation goes back to 1028
and its ancient Benedectine abbey
is one of the most conspicuous examples of romanic architectures
in Tuscany.
Dicomano has assumed the characteristics
of a market town since the middle ages - it is dominated by
the romanesque parish church
of St. Maria with its vigourous
bell tower on one side.
The Frascole archeological
excavations of Poggio di Frascole is one of the main
archeological complexes of Mugello and Valdisieve.
Vicchio,
the birth place of Giotto di
Bondone, has now become a museum
and has just recently been open after restaurations During
the summer/autumn
period there are several medieval festivals
and events to visit..
